Why do they do this?

Marlins 3 Cubs 2

The Marlins strike out 20 times in 12 innings.  Rich Harden pitches like a stud.  The Marlins leave 15 men on base.  How did they win?  I honestly feel bad for Rich Harden.  30 Ks, about 15-17 IP, 2 ER and he still hasn’t won a game in the National League.  Good job by the Marlins.  The bullpen, which I thought would be a disaster on top of a fiasco wrapped in a catastrophe with a cherry on top, has been dynamite this series and really has been solid all year.  Yes, the team has a huge ERA, but the Marlins have the most come from behind wins in the NL.  What causes that?  Other than hitting, a solid bullpen.  Usually if you are behind, the bullpen is in the game.  Renyel Pinto”bean” has been great, Justin “Tattoo” Miller has been lights out at times, and Kevin “Goggles” Gregg has been excellent.

Truth be told I thought we would lose 100 games this year.  Hanley Ramirez would be trade bait and somewhere in there Fredi Gonzalez would be shown the door.  Apparently, something happened.  We lead baseball in HRs, which is phenomenal considering that our home outfield could double as a metropolitan airport on off days.  Jorge Cantu…  what can I say?  He had a good year in Tampa a few years ago, but who expected him to be the stud he has been.  Hanley and Danny Uggla have been ridiculous and Cody Ross has been stellar.  Mike Jacobs is doing his job…  standing there and occasionally hitting HRs…  and the starting pitching has completely exceeded expectations.  Nolasco has been great, and I do not curse nearly as much when Scott Olsen takes the mound.

So that brings me to the name of this entry.  Why do they do this?  Something is going to go wrong.  An injury, a team slump, a meteor hitting the team bus on the way to the airport (do they even fly from city to city or is it like the movie Major League where they travel from city to city in a coach bus from the 60’s called the Indian Express?)  I want nothing but the best for them.  I will write in a few days about the necessary evil of the new stadium.  There is so much good going on right now, I find myself looking for what could go wrong and wondering to myself, why do they do this?

They are on TBS tomorrow, so I don’t have to watch on my laptop.  That’ll be nice.  Rick Vandenhurk is on the mound.  He looked good against the Braves, but last time he was with the big league club he always looked nervous and when he was on the big stage he would try too hard.  Well Rick, tomorrow you’ll be on the biggest stage in the NL.  For the love of God keep your fastball down.

Anyway, Go fish!
